It's pretty basic. Each time you upload a new set of pictures, it will put them into a new folder. You can organize the photos into collections, etc. You can make basic edits like cropping, and do some color changes and sharpening. My favorite feature of the Picture Project is that it lets you view the images at full-screen size (slideshow) and mark (tag) the ones that you like. I have found no other program that has that feature.

Lightroom will but it's considerably more expensive.
Picture Project is fine as a basic image sorting program but it's not really designed as an editor.

Lightroom will actually let you see the images at full screen size and mark them? I tried the Lightroom trial last year and didn't find this feature. I liked Lightroom, but so far I haven't had the money to need to make the choice between it and Capture

ViewNX will allow you to view fullscreen and tag, at the same time, also has a histogram in bottom right corner, if you are using CaptureNX, I strongly suggest using ViewNX along with it, its a great workflow!

Well, it still has a few (serious) wrinkles. It's kind of hard to believe that once you edit the photo in Capture, there's not much you can do in View any longer except view and print (I'm not sure about printing). I don't mind the not being able to edit in ViewNX, but not being able to convert to tiff/jpg is just annoying.

Picasa is a better organizing/light editing program than PictureProject. The only Nikon software I'm currently using is the In Touch downloader, which I find handy.
