View Full Version : Another week and other rumour - D40x finished
Thom Hogan is reporting that Nikon have ceased production of the D40X.
Maybe the D40X and the D80 will merge into one replacement camera?
Hogan is also reporting that production has started on the 16-85VR lens that was rumoured several weeks ago.
I bet this lens get earlier reviews than the new 18-55VR. 16-85 would be a very useful range for many people.

That would be ok, but still keep a D40 type, entry level. I think that has been a winner for Nikon in getting people started in DSLR's.

16-85/VR? Oh wow. This could be a killer lens option for Nikon. I switched to Olympus for my travel system because they had the focal length options I needed.
If someone could design a 14-65 for the Nikon mount, that would be heavenly! I find 18 mm just isn't wide enough for travel. 16 mm is definitely an improvement, but 14 mm is what I really need.
Tokina has 12-24 and 16-50 options available, but the 12-24 doesn't go long enough for me to act a single walkaround / travel lens, and the 16-50 isn't quite wide enough either. I know, picky picky... but after lots of travel pics, I know exactly what focal lengths I want.
With the Olympus system, I use the 11-22/2.8-3.5, which is equivalent to 14.5-29 on an APS-C 1.5x body and the 12-60/2.8-4, which is equivalent to 16-80.
