I took approximately 900 shots during my trip to DC over the last 5 days. Many did not come out, but a handful did. Enjoy :) (C&C welcome!!!)
The first few images were taken inside at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. I've noticed that the D80 performs poorly at ISO's above 600, and very few images came out (I truly preferred to refrain from using a flash if possible).

I like the memorial pool one - It's a different perspective. Just a thought, but maybe you could get a greater effect by cropping out the top section?
But yea, nice shoot. :)

The tigers are far away, with the 200mm and cropping it looks great.
At the Smithsonian there was a National Geographic Award Winning Photo
Exhibit, was it still showing? It will either inspire you or make you put your camera down and never pick it up again.

We have a former politician in this country who is famous for answering a question with the words, "Please explain".
So how about explaining for us igrant Antipodeans.
it's the shirt Bill wore when he did NOT have sex with that woman.
In that case maybe Hilary should have been wearing it in Iowa today to get the sympathy vote. :D:D

Rich, the banner was still up at the entrance to the Smithsonian however the NG exhibit was no longer showing. I do recall, a few years back, that I purchased the "best" of NG. It was a magazine (though it cost about the same as a book, lol) and had some of the most amazing images I'd ever seen! I was so looking forward to seeing the exhibit, however it seemed I was a little too late :(
And yes, the 200mm was definitely lacking...not getting me quite close enough and producing (for the most part) softer images. I had to crop most of the images even more to make them more pleasing to the eye, as with the shot of the tiger sharpening his claws, but unfortunately that allowed the noise and softness to be a tad more obvious :(

Is that the "pirate shirt" from Seinfeld?

At times, I miss DC and one of those things I miss is the National Zoo. Of course, I like your tiger photo and tigers as well--so much that I picked up my own domestic Bengal several years ago. Hint: That is pretty much what the "B" stands for in TNB--Bennie the Bengal. "T" doesn't quite stand for "tiger" but for Tigger. ;)

In my younger years I took a class in photography. Then the instructor introduced me to a photographer--his work was in the Smithsonian. Unfortunately, he died soon thereafter and I put my camera down forever. Then digital came around. In a way, I was inspired, lost interest, and got back on track. :D
And next Friday, it's off to a short Canon USA/Class! workshop with a speaker/photographer from National Geographic. :)
Also: PMA starts at the end of the month. Anyone else attending?

The memorial pool picture is very pleasing to my eye, too. And who can't appreciate a beautiful tiger?

Is that the "pirate shirt" from Seinfeld?
Exactly! Or if you prefer the "Puffy Shirt".
Just a shirt worn comedian Jerry Seinfeld on a TV show. Bad things can
happen when a low talker is around.

Time for an admission.
I know who Jerry Seinfeld is but I have never seen a single episode of his show. In fact I would be unlikely to have seen more than a combined total of 1-2 minutes of all his shows.
