Just received a panic IM from my son saying his camera will not open and gives him an error message - E18. I contacted Canon Tech support and was told to send the camera in for repair. Unfortunately my son is in the Caribbean and would like to use the camera.
Does anyone have any solutions to this error message??

Please help. Thank you.

I've never heard of an E18 starting to work again without being sent in for service. My advise is to just buy a regular film camera there and shoot with that for now. It's better to have some pictures than none! I would advise against buying disposable cameras as they are now all loaded with 800 speed film (in the U.S. at least), which in my opinion looks like crap! If he could find some 400 speed or lower disposables then that could work. it should be sunny there so 800 speed film would probably to totally unneccessary AND super-grainy.

BTW, E18 = stuck lens. probably got a grain of sand stuck between the telescoping lens segments from being on the beach.
