I am in need of a digital camera to take pictures of my 9 month old son.

The most important requirement is that it is great at taking pictures indoors, in low lighting, without a flash, of a subject in motion.

I am willing to pay up to $350 on Amazon.com.

I want it to be a compact or subcompact. Fairly easy to use. Optical stabilization is another must have feature.

Some features I would like but not as important: wide angle lens, 8 megapixels, takes good video, and 3 or 4x zoom.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Unless you're willing to buy an expensive dslr, the Fuji F40fd is about as good as there is for low-light photos without a flash.

Pentax has a sale on their cameras right now;

I believe you can get a k100 kit dslr for 499.99 - 100 MIR for 399.99 AR

one of the better deals I've seen for dslr's

Professional quality pictures for good price and has built in Image stabilization.

-------------------------

A few years back, I was in the same situation and I found out that dslr's produced such a difference in quality of photos, I bought one and never looked back. I do have bought a few PnS cameras for my wife and mom, but to take pictures of my boy running around or family pictures, you want a dslr. Once you examine the picture quality and capabilities, you dont look back.

with pns cameras, the shutter is too slow to catch an active boy imo. Even though you want 8mpix, the pentax only has 6mp, but it's actually a very good amount.

at that resolution, you should be able to do prints of sizes 8x10 with full detail or 16x20 with good resolution.

if you want the very best in low light, you will need to spend a little bit more for faster lenses, but with the pentax, I doubt any pns can get close to the lowlight capabilities.
