The Canon SD1000 does not have image stabilization. You may want to look at the Canon SD850IS.

You may also want to check out the Panasonic Lumix TZ3. It's a great little camera that has a lot of the features you're looking for.

The Canon A570 and A720 are a good choice, too. Both of them have IS, and manual controls, but they have plenty of automatic settings as well. The A570 has 4x zoom and the A720 has 6x zoom. You can find them for under $200 nowadays.
