I am looking for a camera under 300 dollars (lower is always better but quality is a primary concern).
Size isn't a true issue but this is going be carried most of the time in a bag or on my person, so I'd like to avoid a truely clunky camera. My current camera is pretty big and unwieldy which is a negative and to be honest while features are nice I'm not looking for amazing unbelieveable pictures just yet, however the ability to take great pictures is as always a plus.
I would like something I can learn with, so if I want to go deeper into the world of photography I can, so manual controls are slightly important.
The big thing is my camera is for "memories", 'remember the time we all got together and hung out' sort of thing. To be honest, a lot of the work for this camera would be bar and dinner settings. I'm unsure if that's really low light but that's where I get a little confused. If someone could confirm that I'd appreciate it.
I got a Christmas gift of an Kodak Easyshare v803. And while the camera appears defective overall the flash was crap, the camera never felt well build and the shots are just horrible (well-lit room, can clearly read something at the distance and the camera took shots that looked like they came out of some Gothic setting. In addition there was no indication when the flash was ready and overall poor performance. After 3 hours I already had returned it, to put it simply: no Kodaks.
The two cameras I'm considering is an Canon A720, and a Fujifilm F50fd.
My primary interests are good flash range (I don't need amazing but at least serviceable across a table should be a minimum) good reshoot time (mostly with flash, remember we're talking bars and alcohol, so we aren't looking for the fastest shots ever made, but I don't want to be waiting around half a minute to recharge a flash), and overall good performance. Also using SD cards and having short power-on to shoot times are a positive.
Both of the cameras mentioned (F50fd and A720) seemed to come highly reviewed and rated and that's what I looked for, I haven't seen many negatives, however one thing I'd like to be able to do is try the camera or at least hold it before buying the camera. Unfortunately on a tour of the 34994 zip code I could not find a F50fd on display. Does anyone have any suggestion where to look?
I've looked at all the big box stores (Circuit City, Best buy, Target, Walmart, Office max, office depot) but while the A720 had at least a 50 percent appearance rate there was not a single F50fd to be found, and I don't think I want to purchase a camera with out at least testing it a bit, so if someone knows a good location to look for a F50fd I'd appreciate hearing about it. Or any camera suggestion.
