Hi Folks,
I'm looking for a tripod for my S3 that'll alow me to leave the mounting plate attached to the camera and still let me change the batteris. I've looked at Manfrottos and some of the Velbon ones but no dice.
As the thread is plastic I really want to keep the plate fixed to the camera, does anyone know of one where the fixing screw is in a slot rather than a hole so that the plate can be adjusted i.e. shoved out of the way of the battery compartment door?

Tripod needs to be fairly lightweight, 30-40cm (1-1.5ft) closed and getting towards 150cm (4-5ft) high open and have a fairly low profile mounting plate. Oh, and not beyond the dreams of Avarice!

Any ideas?

Also I have a cheapo Chinese adapter tube (for addon lenses) and there's a small amount of play in it where it fixes to the lens barrel. Is this also the case with the Canon and/or Lensmate adapters?

Cheers,

Jon.

Jon.The best, lightest (yet sturdy) and most compact real tripod you can get at a reasonable price:

I never leave home without mine! Even fits in cargo pants pocket!

Hi JTL,
Thanks for the reply. Does it allow acess to the battery compartment with the plate fitted to the S3 though?
I took a look at a couple of Velbons in a local shop today with the quick release plate and although they are small
I could not open the battery door with them fitted.

Cheers,

Jon.

Does it allow acess to the battery compartment with the plate fitted to the S3 though?Nope. I don't think any quick release plate will allow that. But, if you happen to find one...let me know! :)

This works great with the S3. The battery door opens with it on the camera. It will fit any tripod. I liked it so much I got one for my monopod and another for my tripod. Checkit out at: http://cgi.ebay.com/SIMA-Universal-QUICK-RELEASE-SHOE-FITS-any-TRIPOD-NeW_W0QQitemZ280187566950QQihZ018QQcategoryZ30091Q QtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem They ship fast and are easy to deal with.

Thanks KSM,
I'll have to see if I can get one sent to the United Kingdom.

Cheers.
