A reader/writer can read a memory card for downloading photos to a PC. What does it do for writing? Can it upload photos from the PC to the mem card? Can you upload photos taken from different camera models on to the same card? If you put then put the card in your camera, will you be able to view all the photos from the different cameras on your LCD? Or can it only display photos taken by that camera model? Will that damage your camera?

Although I have not done it, I understand that the card acts as a disk and can be written to. From what I have read, you may not be able to view the photos on your camera.

That's correct JLV.
You can use a card reader in combination with a memory card as a USB drive. You can put photos from different cameras to a card reader but you can't view all of them since they all contain different file structures. You can only view the photo taken by that camera model.
The action doesn't damage the camera.
