I got my wife a new SD750 for Christmas and quickly realized that I'll need to get a 2nd battery. The official Canon batteries are hideously expensive ($50 is the cheapest I can find them in stores) and knockoffs start at around $6. From the comments I've read, some people swear they're as good, if not better, than the original equipment, while others say they suck.

What do you guys think? Are there any particular brands that are good or that I should avoid? Should I stick to Canon batteries and try to find a decent internet deal?

I like the SD750 by the way. It doesn't have the flexibility of my S3 of course, but for a little take-anywhere camera it's pretty impressive - and that screen is huge!

Thanks!

I'd guess that most of the generic batteries are made by the same few manufacturers in China.

I've been buying generic batteries for my cameras and all sorts of other devices for years.

I got two NB-4L's from one eBay seller in Hong Kong for about $7 and then another two from a different HK seller later for $10 (total). The shipping took about 10-20 business days but they work great.

It seems that most of the retail sites based in the US charge about $10-15 per battery. If a warranty is important to you, go with SterlingTek.com. If not, you can't beat the direct from HK prices.

I've found NB-4L knock offs at B&H and NewEgg that I'd trust more then eBay. They cost $10-15 IIRC.
