View Full Version : Let's spread rumours like everybody else
Has anybody else caught up with the rumours sweeping DPReview amongst other sites?
The new 16-85 AF-S f3.5-5.6G VR lens is the one I am talking about. I could add to the rumour by saying that it would be the ideal kit lens for the D90 due in a month or so and that you can buy it from here and because you read it on the internet you can repeat it as truth. :D:D

An interesting lens indeed, the lens is quite appealing to me and if the IQ and price is good i might consider getting one. Thats if the rumors are true :).
We will just have to wait and see :). Heres some pictures spread around other forums.

I read about this too and I don't think this is a rumor.

It provides a very useful range of 24-127mm in 35mm format and could be an ideal walk around lens with VR thrown in. Very similar to the 17-85 IS from the canon camp.
I just hope it does not come with huge barrel distortion and CA issues like its ill famed canon counterpart.

The Nikon 18-70, 18-135 and 18-200 have very strong barrel distortions too Viki, so don't be surprised if the new 16-85 has teh same strong barrel distortion. It does go wider too.
This thread says a lot about human nature.
I deliberately includes the word rumour in the title and what happens? 263 views in less than 12 hours.
Other threads on what should be more interesting photographic topics (sports lenses or RAW conversion) have only attracted less than 100 views over several days.

A DX equivalent of the 24-120 VR would not surprise me at all. Hell, if it's good enough I'd probably buy one.

Maybe everyone is just in the mood to play right now?
I heard that Nikon was going to be giving away D40s to Canon users who continually bash it on the various forums. Their thinking is that these people have never actually held the camera in their hands, and once they do they will move over to the Nikon camp. ;)

Nikon says that if you bought a new Nikon DSLR in 2007, they'll give you full MSRP as a discount toward buying a D3.
hows that ? :p

I actually own the Nikkor 24-120 VR though I haven't used it since I purchased the 17-55 F/2.8.

they dont need to do that, the pics speak for themselves. :p
....kiwi you need a new bike. try a blade 08 or a 1098S, that'll keep you in front of the rumours.;)
I can't wait for the full frame Nikon D400 and the new SB-1000 speedlight!

Through an engineering breakthrough, Nikon's new FX-format sensor has become so easy and affordable to produce, they are offering to retro-fit their DX-format cameras with FX sensors! All we need to do is send in our cameras plus $100 for labor and return shipping costs!
(how's that for a killer rumor?;))

Actually you did not get the details of the offer correct.
Through my contacts I have negotiated an exclusive world wide deal to be the sole supplier of this retrofit.
I have set up a state of the art facility in Nigeria to perform the work.
All anybody who is interested needs to do is PM me their bank details (purely for account verification purposes) and once our highly skilled technicians have fleec, ah fixed your account information we will forward a pre paid shipping box for you to return your equipment.
Please Note: Due to the highly delicate and technical nature of the retrofit it is imperative that ALL camera equipment in your possession is sent to the factory for sale on eb, ah custom matching and balancing.
Due to the unexpectedly high demand at present our operators will be unable to attend to queries regarding the return of your equipment for at least 6 months but please listen to these messages from our partners... we value your business are are treating just like we do as well.

Im reading rumours about a D60 coming out next spring, these are all just rumours tho with no real facts or pictures to back them up. Theres not even any info on the features the D60 would have, just that its Nikons answer to the canon400D successor.
D60+16-85VR vould make a great combo if reasonably priced.
Spreading rumours is fun! :D
Seriously. I expect a D80 replacement early in 2008 and a D40/x replacement later in 2008.
The D80 needs to be replaced technology wise and Nikon would not be able to go through another northern summer / Christmas peiod with the D40 series, it would be seen as being to old by consumers and sales would plummet.
Who cares what the model numbers age.
