I like this camera (a lot) after perhaps three months of use, the lense seemed to jam or not operate properly. There was a readout to that effect. I had it repaired at no charge by Canon in a short time and I was again happy. Now a similar although perhaps slightly different lense problem has occured. I am unable to view or take clear pictures and get a lense error constantly.
Is this normal for this camera or did I get a lemon, and what do I do to prevent this from repeating? I am loosing all confidence in this particular camera and perhaps Canon.
I know of no accidents or rough handling at any time with this camera.

I got a refurbished (looks new) SD900 in exchange for an old SD110 with the purple/black CCD issue.
I noticed that when turning it off the lens retracting into the case makes a sound like metal lightly scraping metal.
It doesn't sound unhealthy though.
I think your camera needs to be exchanged or have the entire lens/ccd replaced.
Don't lose confidence in Canon. They really impressed me recently when I sent in my really old beat up SD110 with the faulty Sony CCD. With no questions asked they sent me a like new (refurbished) SD1000. Then for my family member's SD110, I got the SD900.
Most manufacturers would have said that I abused my SD110 due to all the scratches, dents and dings.

I talked to three people at Canon waranty repair, two of which were very helpfull and nice and then the other one who was waisting air. I talked to a supervisor who will follow up on checking the camera when it gets there. They would not speculate without seeing the camera, but were optomistic that it would be reliable after repair. I explained that my concern was that soon after warranty end, I would be stuck with a big bill or junk. The supervisor assured me that if I kept his contact information, I would have some support. I will see how it goes, but would like a different camera or major overhaul.
