I'm used to using good old Windows (XP) for viewing and copying photos. Have also used Picasa.

Can't seem to find a view in CaptureNX that is like WinXP, Picasa for
-small thumbnails
-filmstrip

Am I missing them, or is that functionality either just different, or not there?

If you want to view photos using Nikon Software you should download View NX. It's free.

Thanks.

Why are such basic functions separated into different programs??

That question needs to be directed to Nikon.
Many programs from other vendors combine the viewing /editing /organising functions.

Downloaded/installed ViewNX. Looks sweet! Thanks a bunch. Did not see any mention of ViewNX in the CaptureNX literature.

On the left hand side of the Capture NX edit window, there is a strip called Browser, click the "+" sign and you can import folders and view the thumbnails there, to minimize it while youre editing, click the "-".

View NX is new (about 6-8 weeks old?). The literature you have with your camera is probably older than that.
