lens recalls

does anyone know of a recall on the sd600 elph? my camera says lens error restart, however, it still wont work, and i have not found any recalls on the canon site

Nope. Sounds like the lens mechanism has gotten dirty or worn.

Lens errors are fairly common for most digital cameras, especially point-and-shoots. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

If your camera's no longer under warranty, Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They seem to work for about 50% of the lens errors, so they're worth a try:
