I just received my Sony Alpha 100 in the mail. However I am not allowed to use it till Xmas. :( This is my first digital SLR. My old camara was a Maxxum 400si. I went with the Sony so I can use my old lenes. The 2 lenes I have are Minolta AF 35-70 that came with the camara and a Quantary 70-300 1.4-5.6 Macro.
I am looking to buy a new lens I want to get a wide angle lense any sugestions as to what lens I should get.

I also put some of my pictures from my old camara on Flickr if anybody wants to check them out. I will be adding the ones from my new camara when I am allowed to use it LOL
The link to pictures don't work. I will try to fix it.

Sparkie 1263 - I have had my A100 since last Christmas and have enjoyed it but I looking for a good external flash. Sony's 56AM is too expensive for what they offer and trying old Minolta's they don't seem to work with the Sony computer in the camera. Have you found anything else that offers tilt and swivel as well as the compatibility?

What would your budget be for wide angle?

Sparkie .... what's your definition of wide angle? The standard 28mm film wide angle ... or much wider?

I have found the most useful range on my α700 is the 17-50mm f/2.8 (effectively a film 28-75mm). I rarely need to go wider than that, unless I need a full room capture, large group or a architectural shot. It's basically my walk-around, for the most part.

The alternatives for the SONY are not cheap, to be sure. Roughly $500+ a lens for the UWA lenses (11-18mm, 10-22mm, 10-20mm, 12-24mm). A lot of the Great Britain SONY/Minolta forum users prefer the SIGMA 10-20 over the SONY 11-18mm. I would tend to support that idea, too. The SONY lens is roughly $650 ... the SIGMA about $500 at B&H.
