Can I use my old flash?

Hello, I just bought a new FZ20, and am trying to find out if I can use my old Vivitar 2500 flash with it. I know there's concern about the flash's trigger voltage. I've looked in the owner's manual, and it doesn't provide this data. A web search reveals that the trigger voltage is 12V.

What do you think--can I safely use this flash?
