I have now purchased two Sony DSC cameras that lasted significantly less than a year.
I bought a DSC-30 in May 2007. It lasted less than a month, and began having the "Access / Turn off and back on" problem. The service rep said it required repair. It was still under the store return policy so I returned it to the retail store.
I purchased a DSC-W50 in June 2007 as a replacement. It failed the same way two weeks ago (December 2007). The service tech says it requires repair, shipped at my own expense.
What is the problem here? Is anyone else having these problems with Sony DSC cameras? Is there a software reset procedure beyond the "Manual Reset" the troubleshooting guide and manual suggests?
If Sony techs look at this forum, I invite you to explain yourselves. I am leery of sending this camera in just to get someone else's refurb back as a replacement, and I am not sure I want to give Sony a third chance.
For the record, I used an original Cybershot film camera for over 20 years, including the first Gulf War, until I retired it and replaced it with a Digital Mavica in 2002. the Mavica still works great.
TIA,
Guy
