The 50mm 1.8 is a near must purchase at $70-80. It is reasonably fast, delivers good OOF areas(bokeh), and it costs under $100. It fills the gap between my 17-40 and 80-200 nicely and allows me to take indoor pictures with available light. I actually own the Mark I which is essentially the same lens with a metal mount and distance scale. Have fun with your new lens, sure looks little on the body doesn't it? :)

Weather it's Nikkor, or Canon a 50mm f1.8 (or 1.4) is an absolute necessity.

Nice shot. Wait until you try protraits... Although you might want to use ISO 400 or lower for that.

Try shooting that same picture with an all-in-one. Hah! ;)
