Since long I had been planning to visit the Tiger Park... was finally able to make it last Sunday..

It was sunset time, and as I was walking through the dense vegetation, I heard the sound of crackling leaves behind the distant bushes. I stopped and waited motionless...trying to get a glimpse of things, and there about 30mts from me I could see black & yellow stripes through the bushes...

He then paused, tilted his head towards the groung and sniffed the air.. I think he could notice my presence.. however, he ignored me and continued his walk towards the less bushy areas...

And then as he stepped out of the vegetation and into the warm sunlight, we could see each other face to face..he stopped, opened his Jaws, and gave me a threatening stare from 30m

But, I defied him and stood my ground. It was a face off...This took him by surprise, as he's not normally used to people defying him so ballantly... he slowly started walking towards me..now 25m

It was not a charge, but he kept his stare fixed at me and continued walking towards me.. I was slowly starting to get afraid...at 20m

I mustered enough courage and stood still, shooting away at 3fps... and he continued towards me... now 15m

At 10m, as he stared into my eyes, a sudden chill ran down my spine

Now he was barely 10ft from me.... and I felt no fear, for, due to the reduced focus distance, I was able to see the reassuring impression of the Solid Steel bars between the two of us:)

Whew! what a face off...and I did'nt budge till the last moment:)

My favorite shot of the evening: 1/160s, f/8.0, ISO 1600:eek::eek:. Oh I just love the canon sensor for its outstanding high ISO performance!

looks great !

mind you...1/160s, f/8 indicates there's bags of light and not alot of dark shadows so not really a test of iso.

Excellent shot, high ISO performance on a budget is the same reason I bought my camera. :D

Sorry, no more photos of the cubs.

The newly opened Tiger park is located inside the 'Assam State Zoo & Botanical Garden' in Assam, INDIA.

Thanks Drama!

Actually 'The Stare' was shot in such a way that the steel bars were about 5' from me and the Tiger was about another 15' from the bars. Due to the ackward positioning of the bars, It was not possible to make the bars fully disappear from the view. I had to do a lot of pp to get rid of the blurry remains of the bars:)

Here's the original...

Yes an excellent series Vicky & good narative - you certainly got me impressed with your nerve for a while there. Just think, without those bars feeding time could have been you  My favourite is the stare too & that was a nice job on the PP to minimise the effects of the bars.

This was the first time I used AI Servo with my 70-300 IS. Considering that the black, white and yellow stripes of the Tiger make it a very 'AF friendly' subject, I was not overly impressed with the overall keeper % of AI focus. Out of the total 40ish shots fired, I had about 15 with average sharpness and only 2 'pin sharp'... rest had to be binned:(
