I thought my friends on this board would be interested in seeing some samples taken with this new lens. I've read the reviews and decided to pick up the lens to try for myself. (Please note that these are not meant to be artistic, so don't judge them for their photographic merits.) What impressed me most was that I was able to get a few keepers with shutter speeds slower than 1/20 sec. My hands are admittedly not that steady so that is more a tribute to this little lens than the person behind the viewfinder.

You may not have steady hands, but you do have talent... some very nice photos inbetween there. And of course I do not know what post processing you did or did not do, but as it is the colour, contrast and feel to the photos is very good.
All in all, a very surprising lens!

Agreed. Good shots from a surprisingly good lens. :)

Ditto. Definitely makes me think about it as a possibility.

Impressive!
I'm also interested in your PP. You have some serious talent! :)

Thank you for the nice words guys. You overestimate my abilities though. Honestly. I'm just a snap shooter who takes enough that I will occasionally get a keeper or two. The PP I've done is really minimal* -- adjust the WB if necessary, resize and sharpen for posting/printing.
And if it helps, the parameters I set on the 20D are -1 (Contrast), -2 (Sharpness), 0 (Saturation) and 0 (Color Tone).
*This is the least enjoyable part of digital photography for me.

Davephoto....brilliant....love them.
I went to Hong Kong for the first time last year and when I saw your photos I felt homesick.
How is this possible when it's not my home
Showed them to the wife and she now wants to go back too :)
very nice.
really, I can't believe they are from a kit lens.

As soon as I get my 18-55mm IS from amazon, this 28-105mm and my original kit lens are going up for sell.

You're welcome back to Hong Kong anytime! It's a wonderful city to live in. Cosmopolitan, moderate weather year round, lots of different cuisine and perhaps one of the prettiest skylines in the world (Kowloon viewing HK Island). I've made it my home for the past thirteen years and still enjoy living here.
That being said, Sydney is probably the city that most reminds me of my home town. I was last there during the APEC conference in early September when the city was gated up. (Stayed on Elizabeth at the time.) A really lovely city.
