hi,
im using a canon power shot S1 IS.
the problem- with the camera set on auto with default settings, the display shows the image i am about to capture perfectly on the LCD monitor.
after snapping the picture, it captures it and displays the image on the LCD monitor, but the image now has white stripes or lines running through it horizontaly on the LCD monitor, and the lines appear on the image after transferring them onto a computer and/or paper.
i cannot find a solution to this problem. anyone have any info on this?
thanks.

Can you post an example? It may be your CCD going bad. I believe this camera was covered by the recall of bad CCDs supplied by Sony.

Our camera is doing the same thing and also is a Canon Powershot SI. We've had the camera for about three years and this summer started displaying horizontal white streaks through pictures in the LCD. Is the CCD replaceable? I read some, but not all, of camera manufacturers issued a recall.

The Canon S1 is covered by the recall. Contact Canon for instructions on how to return the camera for repair.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
