I've had a Konica-Minolta Dimage Z1 for about a year now, and have had good results copying old slide images using the super-macro feature. This was a major selling point to me at the time I bought the Z1 ( I was able to do some test shots & was very pleased with the results). Now I'm looking to move on to a 4-5 MG camera. I've narrowed my search to either the K-M Z3 or the Panasonic Lumix FZ15/FZ20. The K-M Z3 has a minimum Macro distance of 1cm - same as my Z1, so copying slides should be the same as with my Z1. The Lumix FZ15/FZ20 has a minimum Macro distance of 5cm. Will that make a difference in being able to copy slides? Has anyone else tried this method of copying slides using a Lumix?

I'm interested in your method of copying slides. Did you build a copier for your slides? I've been toying with buying a copier for my 995 in order to copy slides and negatives. Thus far, I have not done so.

Rhys,

I have used a slide copier with my 990 and it works great. Give it a try, you will be amazed.

All I did to copy the slides was use a simple light box, small tripod and shoot the Z1 in Super Macro mode. You can see some of the results at my webpage:

www.bigbird.smugmug.com .

All the images under the Alaska Highway in Winter gallery were done from old slides.

I use a fairly inexpensive Happenstance copier on my 990, but it appears that they are no longer available. But here is what it looks like (pretty simple).
