just got a new camera , a rebel xti , I have been looking thru manuals but dont quite understand what is meant by taking RAW pics can someone explain that please ?

Mick 0613- RAW---learn to use it. It'll be the best imaging tool you'll ever use. DPP is a very acceptable tool for fixing your pictures. You can correct any white balance issues or exposure within reason. Practice with some pictures and you'll see what we mean.
