im thinking about getting the Canon PowerShot A400 because of its *seemingly* ok quality and low price.

can anyone help me...? is this a good camera? ive read reviews but theyre all pretty different and too technical haha

also, can this camera be used as a webcam ? i dont kno which cameras can because none of the cameras im looking at seem to have the webcam function listed

any other lowprice camera reccomendations?

thank you. :)

the A400 is ok, but the Canon Powershot A75 is only mildly more expensive and includes the following advantages over the A400:

* better picture quality because of the biggest sensor
* comes with a 32mb picture storage card rather than 16mb
* 3x zoom vs 2.2x zoom
* slightly larger LCD
* wider lens meaning you can put more 'width' into a picture

the A400 has the following advantages:

* lighter
* only needs 2 batteries instead of the A75's four
* prettier ;)

I'd choose the A75 over the A400 myself.

You'll need to factor in buying 2 or 4 nimh recharable batteries and a recharger into the cost of buying. Look for 2300 or 2500mAh rated AAs.

I vaguely remember reading on a webpage somewhere that there was some way of using the A75 & 85 as a webcam with WindowsXP, but I'm not sure. You'd have better luck asking that question at www.powershot-a.com

i suggest the a75. you get all those manual controls for only $10-20 more! my main beef with the a400 is that the wide end of the zoom range is not wide at all. if your main concern is appearance and only plan to take pics of people and pets, then the A400 isn't a bad choice.
