A few days ago, I shot 3 movies (AVI) with my S3 (of a malfunctioning gas furnace trying to start). I downloaded each AVI file (and corresponding THM file) to my hard drive.

Today, I moved the files back. Both moves were done with the command line or Windows Explorer (XP, SP2). The correct directory on the SD card is:

\DCIM\100CANON\*.*

My client's computer is messed up, so I have to play the movie on the camera. I made sure the file name was correct (mvi_2154.avi, and mvi_2154.thm, for example).

At one point, I renamed the files to upper case letters, but that did not fix things. The camera simply acts like the files are not there. The manual says I can copy files back to the card. I assume I can do it with movies, but I don't know. Has anybody copied movies back to the card?

I have not used any kind of editing software on the 3 movies, so any file headers, EXIF data, etc. should be intact.

A test movie (shot and played back without turning the camera off) plays just fine. The camera simply does not see (or refuses to see) the three movies on the card that I off-loaded and then moved back. Why?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Did you try moving them with ZoomBrowser? It will set things up properly on the camera for the movies to play.
