Looking good r3g, it was a familiar site when I opened the thread. Just a few tips from reading strobist: the umbrella swivel adapters are mounted upside down. The hot shoe needs to be swapped to the other end so the brass inserts must be swapped around, pliers may need to be used to pull it out. They come mounted the wrong way where the umbrella won't move parallel to the flash head if used as is. And when mounting it on the light stand, take the brass inserts and adapters out and just mount it straight onto the top of the light stand, it's more stable.

(From Amazon.com where I got all mine)

Manfrotto #001B Nano Light Stand - $54.95

Photoflex - Shoe Mount Multiclamp - $16.95

Westcott 43" Soft Silver Collapsible Umbrella - $20.20

Cactus Wireless Hotshoe Transmitter & Receiver - $20 (on ebay)

Nikon Speedlight SB-24 - $80 (on ebay)

So roughly $192 + tax and shipping.

How have the triggers been so far?

Perfect inside but outdoors they tend to not fire lets say 6 out of 20 shots. Pocketwizards are top priority now.

I'm still looking for a compact bag to fit in my light stands and umbrellas. I saw a tent bag yesterday but wasn't sure if it was long enough. I'll keep looking. Any thoughts on what would fit it well?

I know jack about bags I randomly went to Best Buy one day saw the Compudaypack and liked it so I bought it. Both my stands and umbrellas fit very nice (sticking out a bit of course) but that was the whole reason I got the 001B stand because they are so compact yet they can still tower over me when extended and I am 6' 5".

If you don't want a dedicated camera bag wander up to Anaconda on the corner of Canterbury and Bayswater Roads. Every sort of back pack and cargo bag you could possibly want. They do have a limited range of camera bags but mainly for P&S cameras.

Crumpler have a factory store in Glenferrie Road (just south of the railway overbridge). There are seconds and things in there from time to time.

Thanks K1W1 I hadn't checked there yet. I'll try anaconda since it's much closer than glenferrie. I wasn't looking for anything dedicated as it would cost more, just a long narrow bag to fit 1 or 2 light stands and 2 umbrellas. I'll have a look tomorrow.

Foe twenty bucks you could buy a folding camp chair that comes complete with a carry bag. Leave the chair on the deck and use the bag. :)

BTW, 6'5" maybe we could go one on one?
Only 6'3", 40 and well ... can't jump. Should be no problem for you.
We can meet in the middle of the country somewhere.

Rich said it sooo well! Yup. Sort of reminds of the Dr. Suess book ... Oh the Places You Will Go! Can't wait to see your new pictures in the D40 Pics thread.

Actually I needed to transport stands, boom and umbrellas and picked up a baseball bat bag. I paid about $15, Works great, but I guess I don't get to sit down.
