I'm looking for a compact-ish camera to use during the many times my big and old (but still great) Sony DSC-717 is too big to carry:

Budget: $275 is about what I am considering.

Size: Compact or smaller. I think a Canon S series is too big, but I don't necessarily need a subcompact.

Features: OIS, a smart autofocus (I've tried an A560 with the Digic III and I am impressed).

How many megapixels will suffice for you?
I've been getting along fine with 5, but a few more couldn't hurt.

* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify)
I would like an ultrazoom, but since I don't really want a bigger camera, that might not be possible.

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
8

Do you care for manual controls?
I don't tend to use them...

General Usage

What will you generally use the camera for?
Pics of kids and dogs at home, at school....

Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Probably not.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
Likely

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Some

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate?
I have been very happy with Sony and Canon. I have not liked Nikon.

Are there particular models you already have in mind?
I have been thinking about the Panasonic DMC-TZ3, the Canon SD850 IS, A710 IS and A 570 IS

(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)

If you like the TZ3 take a look at the Canon SX100 and Sony H3 which are very similar cameras.

....looking at reviews of all three, and they really do seem very similar. I'm not sure the two AAs on the canon will do as well as the proprietary batteries on the other two. The included charger on the Sony looks nice, but I own absolutely NO MS Duo cards - just MS and SD.

Which of the three is best shot to shot and inside?
