I wanted to get something that was either very close to an inch in thickness or a smaller. The thinner the better, so maybe 15 - 12mm.

As thickness falls, so does the camera turn into a point and shoot. Some of the thinner ones have had less than great reviews.

Does anyone have experience with the thinner cameras? I was looking to spend around $300

You need to tell us a little more about what you intend to use the camera for. Can you fill out the questionnaire at the top of this forum?

I've gotten some excellent results with my Canon SD300 and SD800 (there are several models in this line), the Panasonics, Sonys, and Olympuses all have their good points. It's important to know what you are willing to trade off.
