Hello All. I was wondering if really cold Michigan weather will damage any part of my new fancy gear. I have been making a habit getting out in the woods on Sunday mornings. I am trying to take some nature shots. I just want to know if I should watch out for certain freezing temperature things. I carry a large case full of lens, camera body flash, all canon 40 D items. I would think with people always taking pictures year round I should be OK Right?? Thanks in advance, Howie

It probably tells you what the operating temperatures for your gear is in their respective manuals. The thing I would be worried about is drastic temperature change. I don't know for sure but it seems there's potential for warping there.

You might get some fogging on the lens with a rapid temperature change, but I don't think it would actually damage anything. Once the temperature inside the lens is the same as the air that should go away.

I think the first thing to go would be your battery. You could carry a couple spares in your pockets in case it dies.
