View Full Version : Is it possible to zoom in/out during a long(ish) exposure ?

Brand spankin' new to the Digicam world, and I am trying to achieve special effects pictures, and was just wondering whether something which was possible (and easily doable) in the film world, can be done in the digital world, and how.

I have a Sony DSC-P93 which has a Manual mode, and when I use a Slow Shutter speed, and depress the shutter release button, the camera seems to disable (the use of) the zooming (Tele and Wide) buttons, and therefore I cannot achieve the required results.

Does anyone know whether this can be done (in a different way), or does it have to be done in the (digital) darkroom ?

If my camera cannot do it, are there any other cameras that can indeed do it, or is it not doable on a digital camera ?

Thanks,

C

I know the effect you are trying to get---I have done it using film cameras. I am not aware (but I could be wrong!) of any digital cameras that will let you zoom while the shutter is open. If anyone knows of any, I'm sure you will get a response here soon. Good luck.

I imagine that any of the current DSLR's will let you zoom during exposure. I am certain that the same effect could be achieved in Photoshop.

CDon't know, but it might be possible with the Canon PowerShot S1 IS. Rhys, any thoughts on that? I know you can zoom during movie exposures on that camera, which is unique among DCs.
