I'm looking to buy a new camera and have been doing my homework. I know that the s6000fd fits my wants the best but I don't see it being recommended learly as often as the Canon s3/s5. Why is the s3/s5 on the 'best in class' list and the s6000fd isnt'? The Canon has image stabilization and a rotating LCD but the Fuji has far superior low light and image quality. What am I missing?

The S5 is considerably lighter, has a hotshoe, remote pc control and uses better (bigger & faster) memory, and that memory allows longer video shots.

Canon S has optical stabiliser which is ideal for long focal length and it has swivel LCD. Like leaftye said, S5 has hot shoe for external flash but I doubt that's the deal breaker for many buyers.

I don't know who said Canon S is the best in its class, arguably that can be true but it depends what kind of 'class' they are talking about. However, for low light photography, Fuji S6000fd/S6500fd is KING amongst non-DSLR.

The s3/s5 is listed in:
Steve's Digicams - Best Cameras
Reviews.cnet - Best 5 Cameras, Editor's Top 8-meg Cameras, Top Megazoom
About.com - Top Cameras under $500
DCresource - Best Cameras $450-$600

And the s6000fd? I never see it listed.

The s3/s5 wins when it comes to IS, the LCD, and the movie mode. But the s6000fd trumps it in the low light, wide angle, and image quality categories. Plus it has RAW and manual zoom/focus which are very nice/desirable features. It's strange that the Fuji doesn't get more acknowledgment. I guess because it's slightly dated.

Well since it's a 2 year old camera you probably won't see any reviews or see it added to any favorites list but don't count this camera out just because of that. This is a really nice camera for the money and worth considering.
