I've just purchased an S700. I've taken shots of my video show and expected to be able to import photos with at least a res of 200. Not so. When I finally got the pix into photoshop, they were @ 72 res.

How to I get higher res shots? Thanks VJ RP

Ignore the 72 DPI you see in PhotoShop or whatever software you are using to view the image. It means nothing; DPI is meaningless until you get ready to print.

Your images are 3072x2304 pixels no matter how you display them on your computer screen. If your software chooses to display them at 72 dpi then it will show up as 42.66" x 32". If it chooses to display them 200 dpi then it will show up as 15.36" x 11.52" on your computer. But that is all pretty meaningless since your screen only displays a 72 dpi. Once you choose to print you will choose the DPI for printing (try to get 300 DPI for best results) and that determines how large a print you can make.

But the number displayed from your image software is meaningless, just ignore it. What's important is how many pixels you have, and that doesn't change.

David is absolutely right. The number of pixels is constant. But as you make the picture area smaller the number of pixels per inch will increase thus giving you a higher resolution to your photo. With the S700 your picture is about 42 inches by 32 inches at 72 dpi. When you reduce your picture size down to about 8.5 inches by 11 inches your dpi has increased to 300 dpi. You can use a software like Genuine Fractals to increase the number of pixels per inch up to 8x with only a small effect to your file. Ive just printed out a photo at 11 x 14 and there was no quality loss at all after using Genuine Fractals.
