Looking for something similar to the Pelican 1780

I've got 4 lightstands, a background stand and a few other odds and sods to transport to locations. Ideally I'd like to carry them all in one container and thus make one trip for the studio gear and a second for the camera gear rather than about 15 trips for studio gear.

I had a good look at the Pelican 1780 but it's a bit expensive at $400 for the bare box ($700 if I get the inserts). Has anybody any cheaper viable solutions? Needn't be as rugged as the Pelican as I won't be taking my portable studio by air just yet. It has to have an internal length of 40" though to accommodate my light stands etc.

Any ideas?

Have you thought about using one of those canvas bags that cover your golf bags when you check them on airlines? Basically a big duffle bag but it should give you the size you want.

Having seen what's available, that does look like just about the only solution. I wonder whether Dicks has anything usable.

a photog friend of mine uses a Hockey gear bag.

they are durable, pretty long, and usually have wheels at one end.

Head to a sporting goods store.
