I own one it's a nice compact flash that does a very good job... with that said if you are in any way considering doing anything creative with lighting you will be better served with a SB-600. The SB-400 does not swivel and it rotates only 90 degrees as opposed to the 180 degrees of the SB-600. hth

What X said. Depends on what you want to do. If its casual use and the need for something more powerful then the pop up flash the SB400 is great. But if youll want to get into more serious lighting (off camera flash) and such go for a SB600.
