Is anyone else's house cluttered up with old memory cards, power cords and connectors that won't work with their new digital cameras?

I'm a newspaper reporter hoping to interview people who have experienced the confusing (to me) array of different formats for digital cameras and other consumer electronics. I'm looking for stories of money wasted on now-useless equipment, and also guidance from people who may have figured out how NOT to waste money.
I work for the Newhouse chain of newspapers, including the Newark Star-Ledger, New Orleans Times-Picayune and Portland Oregonian, which reach over 2 million subscribers. Please feel free to forward my request to friends and family who may be interested in being interviewed.
