I recently purchased a Canon 300d. I am trying to figure out how to make the jpeg pictures smaller. My operating system is MAC OS X 10.4.10.

Any suggestions? This is all new to me.

Thank you

Hi Dennis,

When I take the card out of the camera and insert the card in the reader I download the pidtures to my computer. The pictures are really big. I have not tried to email the pictures either but I think they are so big the receiver might not be able to view them.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

You need some sort of image editing program. You can use the resize for web in Photoshop. I would say that most of them would have something similar. If I remember correctly, Canon's DPP has a convert and save where you can set the quality. Hope this helps.

adjust via the shooting menu. select small/ fine which is a hi-res shot in a reduced physical size. the file sizes and menus are in this link.

I wouldn't recommend that at all as you've effectively cut the amount of pixels by half. Let's say that it happens one of those shots you live for and would like a nice, big print. It's not gonna look near as good with only 1/2 the pixels. Selecting large normal is not much better as the amount of pixels remain, but the compression is a lot more.

My advice is to shoot the best resolution your camera has to offer and then resize for email or web. That way if a large print is desired the quality will be there. For the record, I only shoot RAW.

Ultimately the decision is yours.

I would recommend shooting only RAW, do some PP in program and resize in program. I think you can download file resizing program from inet. I use FastStone Photo Resizer alongside with Image viewer. Check this link:http://www.faststone.org/download.htm

I have several applications for post-processing, but I use Picasa to shrink (resize) my photos. Its the easiest way I've found to shrink photos and its FREE. You can download it from Google.
