I posted this in another forum, but I think that this forum maybe more suitable. Sorry If I shouldn't have reposted it. Really need some feedback.

I just bought a Nikon D40. I bought the camera to take pictures of MMA events and post them on my website as well as visiting local gyms and posting pics of the gyms, owners, trainers and fighters.

Well I thought that I would have time to play with the camera before I had to use it, but I got a call today and one of the fighters can only meet tonight!

So, for the pics of the fighter practicing wrestling, BJJ and standup what would you recommend I set the camera on? S or M for the action? What else do I need to do?

Also, I will be taking pictures of a couple of the fighters as they are just posing, not moving at all. what would you recommend here. I not being lazy, just a little confused and didn't expect such a short notice. I thought that I would have until next week before I had to use it.

By the way do I shoot everything in RAW format?

Thanks for any support.

That thread seems to be gathering the responses. This one is a dupe.

You may get some of the most helpful advice in the Nikon DSLRs forum, too, as it's more specific to your camera.
