Hi everyone, silly question, I'm sure, but how do I need to set up the S6000fd for a long exposure (the 30 sec max) RAW nighttime sky shot where I don't have to worry about keeping the camera in focus?

I've always been a longtime fan of astronomy and I was hoping to get some interesting images with this camera.

Set the focus to manual and make sure the focus is set to infinity (can't remember if it's clockwise our counterclockwise you have to turn :D ).
I usualy use the Aperture-priority mode and the aperture set to F/2.8, I usualy set the ISO to 200.
To save battery time, use the EVF instead of the LCD

There is also a night mode in the SP menu that you need to use if you are going to go for longer exposures. I believe you can have this up to 4 minutes if I remember correctly but the only way to access the submenu to get those exposure times is to have the camera in night mode. As always, use a tripod and make use of the delay timer so you don't get shake when you press the shutter button.

Can you manually set it up for 4 least four minutes or does it set automatically on an exposure-to-exposure basis? I couldn't find any way to tell it how long manually...

The maximum exposure is 30 seconds and it is only available in full manual mode.

I thought it was 30 seconds... I was getting hopeful there for a bit!

Well, I haven't had much of a chance to try, as it's been either overcast or bitterly cold lately.
