View Full Version : Should I buy a Coolpix 4800 or 5200 for my needs?

I sell full-time on Ebay. I sell mostly clothing and handbags and occasionally jewelry, so I need a camera that can do good closeups. I have a Coolpix 3100 now but its on its last legs and I need to upgrade. The 4800 has an 8x optical zoom and 4 megapixels and the 5200 has a 3x optical zoom and 5.1 megapixels. They are the same price though on Circuitcity.com. Which is better for my needs? Should I go for the one with the better zoom or is that more for far away shots than close ups? I also do like taking vacations and having a good camera to do scenery pics. What's best for the same price? Thanks!!! ;)

I recently bought the 5200, and love it. I can't speak for the other camera, but this one takes great close ups. It has a very good macro for a point and shoot. The flash takes some tinkering to get dialed in.
But, if you mainly want to use it for ebay and internet you wouldn't notice a difference in 4 to 5 mega pixels. Also I got my local bestbuy to match circuit city.com's price.
Hope this helps you make your choice.

I Have Gone Through Both The Cameras. The Basic Difference Between Both The Cameras Is That While 5200 Is A Very Compact And Pocketable Camera, 4800 Is Quiet Bulky And May Be Difficult To Manage Due To Its Size. Megapixels Does Not Really Matter When You Compare The Two. A 4 Mp Or A 5 Mp Hardly Make Any Difference. While An 8.3x Zoom On The 4800 May Be An Advantage, For An Ameture, A 3x On The 5200 Is Very Much Ok. :)

There is also a nice rebate right now on both the Nikon 5200 and the Nikon 5400. The long zoom will not be of much help with your E-Bay photos. Nikons are famous for good close-up photos. Try natural lighting it is more predictable than using flash.
