Budget
* What budget have you allocated for buying this camera? Please be as specific as possible. $300-$600
Size
* What size camera are you looking for? Or does size not matter at all to you? Compact camera that you can easily bring along on a hike, in the car, to the playdate, xmas with the family.
Features
How many megapixels will suffice for you? 5 is plenty for me but more is nice
* What optical zoom will you need? (None, Standard = 3x-4x, Ultrazoom = 10x-12x, Other - Specify) I prefer as much optical zoom as possible, at least 3-4x
* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10)
8
Do you care for manual controls?
Yes but use mostly point and shoot settings. Like to be able to turn flash on and off and select different pre-selected themes.
General Usage
* What will you generally use the camera for? Hikes, vacation, family time and following my kids as they grow older
* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not?
Prints 4x6 sometimes bigger, upload for web and photo products like calendars etc.
Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos?
50%-50% outdoor and indoor
Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos?
Yes, since the kids move around a lot. We also play sports.
Miscellaneous
Are there particular brands you like or hate?
Currenlty have a sony dsc p100 which I am very happy with. Use it for everything, including underwater shots (w special case)
Are there particular models you already have in mind?
Not really. Guess it may be practical to use cameras that can use same type of memory cards as y sony (memory stick pro)
(If applicable) Do you need any of the following special features? (Wide Angle, Image Stabilization, Weatherproof, Hotshoe, Rotating LCD)
Not really, value overall image quality over this. However weatherproof would be a plus.
