I am having a bit of trouble getting my Fuji S9100 to keep the entire picture in focus. What happens is the figure in the center of the picture (or the one closest to the lens) is focused and the rest of the picture is soft focused (or out of focus/blurred). What settings should I use to have ever object in the picture in focus?

Thanks

The smaller your aperture (larger the number) the greater your depth of field. Its as simple as that.

Thank you. I'm kind of new to this and still feeling my way around.

Can't you also take a bunch of pictures, each identical except for focus, then tie them together as an HDR picture so that there's more in focus?

Hi Eugene,

I'm not really sure how to work with HDR. I'm also not familiar with the process you suggested. Could you explain?

Thank you

Marburg, I haven't tried it myself, but this thread looks like it does a good job at explaining how it works.

What is High Dynamic Range Photography?
In some scenes, it is very hard to find the right exposure. The exposure you chose is often a compromise. Either the sky looks great and the foreground is too dark, or the foreground is exposed properly but the sky is completely blown out.

In such scenes, High Dynamic Range photography (HDR) can help out. HDR photography is a technique where you blend various exposures of the same scene to get the whole image exposed properly.
