I am looking into purchasing my first digital camera. I am looking for a camera that will be as versatile as possible, as I will have many uses for it. Indoor action shots, outdoor scenery, family gathererings, etc. are some of the things I plan on using the camera for. By nature, I am looking for the best bang for my buck. After doing some research, I've found two cameras that I think will suit my needs, but the go about it differently. I would like an opinion as to whether the Panny FZ15 (which I can get for $361) or the Canon A85 + Canon's 2x telephoto and wide angle lenses (total cost is $324, including the required adapter; this sounds like quite a deal to me) would be better suited for what I am needing. I do realize that the FZ15 could be further expanded with it's own telephoto and wide angle lenses. Is the Panny worth a few more $$$ for someone just getting into the game? Thanks for your opinions.

Not really, but there is more to consider than "just getting into the game". Do expect to learn more about photography, and perhaps expand the borders of your skills in the future? I think the extra zoom and IS of the Panny will allow you to do more than what you could with the Canon, if you are willing to learn.

In case you haven't handled them in person, the FZ15 is a large camera. For me however, it would not be a contest between the two....
