View Full Version : Some Canon powershot SX100 pics...
Hi, I create a general post for the picture of the new model of canon
The high iso 800 and 1600 on this camera are really good. Great compact, nice finition, design and ergonomie. very nice zoom, some difficulties with the chronic aberration.

Chill out with the watermarks. And the pictures you're posting really don't show any special abilities of the camera. You could get what you're posting out of any camera.
Hy Griptape, I'm not pretending to be the best photograph. I'm not trying to say also that the sx100 is the best product on the market. There are other post pictures for the S3, the S5 why not the sx100 or another canon product. I'm like , ilike photography and I want to share it; Watermarks is a way to protect your work, hours on photoshop is also a way to learn and discover. "Any camera can gets this result" as if I say any camera can get the result of a dslr.
Just for you one from the sx100 without anypostproduction.

Watermarks is a way to protect your work. Are you getting paid for any of your "work" ??
Plus, for some odd reason, most of the pics you posted looks too watercolor-ish. I'm not sure if it's the way it was shot, or it's just too much post processing.

I just assumed your intent was to show the picture quality of the camera. If you're sharing just for the sake of sharing, then that's fine. But I stand by my watermark comment, as 600x800 picture files have no value.

Overall I'd say the photos look too dark but I'm not sure what time of day you are shooting and what settings. Auto? Some are night shots and it doesn't seem to do too "well" (pun intended). Thanks for sharing though, Well. I'm curious about this camera and like seeing samples while we wait for reviews.

I notice the skies are blown on a couple of the pictures. I hope that's not symptomatic of the S100
the nighshot pictures were taken in m mode, 10 s exposure, without tripod.
And I'm not paid by for my pictures but I heard that you to put some watermarks. But apparently here some postediting are forbidden...?

No one cares if you do post editing, but adding a giant name in the CENTER of a picture makes you look extremely pretentious. If you want to put your name on the picture, do it small and in the bottom corner.

Wow these don't look half bad considering you didn't have a tripod!! I like the pics, there a great place to start. Enjoy the camera and let people know what you think of it's performance and features:)
But as far as the watermark goes I would also recommend moving it to a corner and blend it in a bit so it's not the main focus of your picture.
thanks for the tip d
Daninabi, explain like this it's ok. Everyone have feeling:-) If others have this camera, it's can be cool to share the experience with them.

I'm not really sure why the watermarks are a topic of discussion. It's your picture, you can do whatever the hell you want with it. You don't need to be making money off of your images to make sure that no one else does.
For the moon shot it would help if you used settings closer to what you'd use during the day. That way you won't blow out the highlights. Also, if you're going to shoot lots of long exposure/night shots then a tripod would be a good investment. Can you post some high ISO shots so we can see how it performs? Usually the Canons underachieve in this area.
I didn't get it also for the watermarks. Anyway 2 iso setting : fisrt one is 800, second one 1600. What do you think about them? And thanks for the moon tips. Do you have advices about tripod, rally easy to go with, stable because I will shot a lot in moutain, during ski and snowboarding trip?

It looks a little better than the S3 but not as good as some of the Fuji's. It's hard to tell though w/o a 100% crop. As for tripods, I can't really help you. I currently use a pretty crappy tripod I got for $3 and a Gorillapod. I'm looking into getting a Manfrotto 055XPROB set of legs and a 322RC2 head.

How do you like your Gorillapod? I was thinking of getting one.

I think it depends what your needs are. It's not the most stable tripod in the world so you really need to use the timer when shooting long exposures. What it lacks in stability it makes up for in size, weight and flexibility. I took it on my trip through Europe and it worked out really well. I used the medium one with the S3. In my gallery, most of the night shots taken with the S3 in the Architecture album were with the help of the Gorillapod. Also, it works best when placed under the weight of the camera rather than to the side.

Good work well. Thanks for sharing the shots and show what the camera can do.
Just one constructive comment regarding water mark. No one has objection to watermark but to put it smack right in the middle will just ruin the good shots you are trying to show. I suggest you put it somewhere on the side where it is less distracting.
However, for the size of the image posted these photos have no commercial value since you can't even make a decent postcard print out of it. And if someone is to steal a photo they can, watermark or not, see my attachment. A 1 minute job.....
Let's see some more shots you took?
Winter and christmas are comming...with them some odd meeting and light.

Here's my say on this:
I don't actually own a SX100, but I work with one at school, and once I have access to such files, I'll post some of my pics.
It's a fine and powerful camera, but I've had my share of disappointments with it, and I see those disappointments in some of the straight-up shots that were posted here. The camera, in any lighting situation, is a fan of grain, and reflects some of my disinterests in the DIGIC III altogether. My DIGIC II powered S3 takes much crisper and clearer pictures than any DIGIC III I've seen (of course, with exception to the Canon dSLRs).
As far as this thread goes, though. I think the title is a bit misleading. Refer to the "some S3 pics" thread, you'll see shots that have zero post processing. Such post-processed shots can be misleading and disappoint some people who are looking for real samples of the camera's capability. Granted, you posted a couple untouched pictures, it is a night and day difference from the ones you post processed and watermarked.
To point out something obvious, a mark of a good camera is a camera that requires no post processing at all. My S3 IS can take excellent photos that I don't need to lay a finger on. This hasn't totally been the case with my SX100, but the untouched shots would classify "acceptable."
Again, I'll post some shots when I have access to the camera again (which may be a month or so), but in the meantime, if you guys could get good shots out of the SX100, I would love to see them.

Can anyone tell me, if date and time can be switched from home to some other area in sx100, like in canon s5-is?
hi, I just came back from Martinique, french caraibean island, my homeland. Here some example of the "island of flower".

This is a wonderful thread. Thanks for starting it. I must say that I am impressed with the quality of the photos that the Canon SX-100 can produce. They are very impressive for a camera in that price range.
