I have need for DSLR with fast, long continuous shooting modes (at least 100 frames), so probably A700, D200/300, EOS40 etc. class camera.

For cameras without live view, is the LCD totally dark during continuous shooting?

For cameras with live view, what are the various implentations showing on the LCD during continuous shooting?

I'm aware of hooking up an external monitor, using viewfinder etc. But I need LCD viewing.

thanks,

I dont claim this to be totally true, but when I researched DSLR's I failed to realize they do not use the lcd for normal viewing like you would on a P&S. Its pretty much viewfinder use to compose and shoot. You can review on the LCD.
This is the only downside to a dslr. Since I had already purchased one and had it for a couple weeks, this became apparent, at least in mine.
So ask before you buy.

In DSLR cameras without live view, the LCD is dark during ALL shooting. You only use the viewfinder.

The models you mentioned, plus some Olympus models are the only DSLRs with live view during shooting.

Some DSLRs do allow you to compose via the LCD. The feature is called LiveView and that is what is being asked about in the second question.
