I have an option to buy a used (good condition) Nikon D100 with battery grip, Nikor 24-85, and a Nikor 70-300. The cost would be $600
Or
I could buy a NEW Canon XTI with the same stuff for about $900
Which one would you choose and why?
Thanks
Seth

Seth - This is not to be sarcastic but personally I wouldn't buy either. This is only to make the point that it's a very personal thing and letting yourself get influenced by other people's opinions on an Internet forum probably isn't going to do a lot to help you get the gear that is best for you.
Do some research on sites like dpreview that review gear objectively and most importantly, get your hands on any gear that you are considering before spending any money. Try the stuff out and decide which best suits your personal needs. If both are of equal use to you, just go for the cheapest one. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply...
dpreview does not have new reviews or comparison between the two cameras. The review on the D100 was back in 2002, and the 400D was completed a year ago.

Why would anyone do a new review on an almost 6 year old camera that isn't even manufactured anymore?

I don't know why anyone would do a comparison between cameras that are five years apart. I did the post to see which camera or deal others would do.

Out of the 2 choices you gave, I'd take the canon XTi over the D100. The D100 is a very old body, and with older technology. How many shutter actuations does the D100 have? The XTi has the newer technology and more megapixels to allow more room to crop. Many other reasons, but it's up to you to decide. If you don't like the feel of the XTi then don't buy it because you won't enjoy using it.

The D70s is a better camera than the D100 in almost every way. I'd buy that first. They go for around $400 these days on the used market.
On the Canon side, I'm seeing the 20D selling for around $500 used, which I would jump all over if I wanted a Canon.
