HI,
I will be going to Niagara Falls next week and would like to take some pics of the fireworks show. From reading I need a tripod and a remote exposure calbe. I am trying to find one for my D40 and having a tough time. It seems that the only one for this camera is an IR remote, but I can't seem to understand how it works.

Can someone with any experience clue me in please.

Uh press the button:confused: lol

It's a two part process with the D40
depress the menu button then first;

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "shooting mode" option #4
and choose the option you need.
1. single frame
2. continuous
3. 10s self-timer
4. 2s delayed remote
5. quick-response remote

The second part is to set the duration for
either the "self-timer" or the "remote control"

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "self-timer" mode option #15

allows you to set self-timer duration

Go to "custom settings" (pencil icon)
then choose "remote on duration" mode option #15

allows you to set remote on duration

I believe Amazon has a remote control which works with all Nikon DSLRs for somewhere in the neighborhood of $12.
