Here are my first pics from my S9000....got it yesterday. These were taken on full auto, handheld, and no edits other than a crop and Photobucket's resizing. I'm open to any and all criticism. Next time I hope to have a tripod, and maybe even learn how to use some of the manual controls, histogram, etc.

Here's another zoo pic. This is a baby Bonobo named Mali. I'm pretty happy with the results, especially considering the low light, shooting thru glass, and over the heads of a few people.

Here's his baby sister. I wasn't as lucky with this picture. It has glare and blur.

Here's some fungi from the front yard. I don't know what species it is. This was the 4th day I've seen this mushroom, and the last day before it really started to die off. If you look at the edges, you can see that they're starting to curl up and "melt". This macro shot was handheld almost on the ground and manual focus to try to capture the detail in the asci....that's the frilly things underneath the caps.

Here's an Echidna. This little fella is 50 years old, looks isn't a porcupine even though he looks like it--he's related to a platypus...and he eats ants. The zookeepers keep him in the children's area...probably just to get a good laugh out of parents and kids screaming with glee "it's a porcupine!". He's also an ambassador of the zoo....whatever that means... I should've shot some video to capture the chorus of kids chanting that line. Anyway, I didn't get any good shots, and almost didn't get any at all. This was my third time I've visited the zoo to see this guy, but he's always sleeping. I went back yesterday afternoon, and tried to get a picture as the zoo was closing. A zookeeper named Deb stopped me, but after I let her know I wanted to see the Echidna again, and that I'd already made several trips, she let me go back to watch her feed him....and that's how I found out more about this guy. The sun was almost completely down when I shot this picture, the camera set to "night" and handheld over the edge of the enclosure. I refrained from using flash so as not to startle this nocturnal creature that was still waking up, and as to not piss off the keeper as she was already doing me a big favor. I also experimented with manual settings, but I think I was shaking too much to get a good shot. This was only one of two shots I got of his face. This was him pulling his face out of a hole he kept his head in while sleeping...probably to block out the sound of screaming kids!
