Hy all,
What do you people who have the SD300/200 say ?. All do you hear some noises at your camera lens ?. (I refer at some louder noises).
Because at my SD300 I hear something after I moove the zoom position, right after the motor stops. It it normal ?. At my "old" A70 I didn`t heard anything.
Than you

I just got an a85 and I was about to ask the same question. When I turn mine on and the lens extends I hear a very subtle noise. And also after I focus I hear the same noise. It seems to be working fine but I was wondering if I needed to return this one.
According to this thread it may be normal. I downloaded the sound that one poster provided and that is the sound I get but not that pronounced.

I downloaded too and it seems my camera makes almoast the exact noise, BUT a bit more metalic.
Till now is working ok (wow is fast !), but who knows in the future ... .
Others with SD300/200, what do you say ?.

Mine does exactly the same. And from what I have read, so do lots of other peoples.
The noises come when adjusting the lens. To me these sound like perfectly healthy, normal mechanical sounds. Ofcourse, I'm no expert because this is the first digital camera i've ever owned. Anyways, the sounds do not bother me.

Five minutes ago I discovered that the last ring of the lens is actualy moving a bit (I can move it with my hand); when is ON. The movement (it isn`t big but noticebly) isn`t on the direction of the lens (in/out), but left-right-up-doun. It seems that it is loose.
I haven`t bump it or something. Tha pictures are ok till now.
This wasn`t hapened when I bought it !.
If is someone else with tha last lend ring a bit loose, please tell me. Because I want to know if is normaly.

My lenses seem also QUITE loose. Not that I tried to move them as hard as I could, I just touched them to see. Yes, I could move them. Although my camera makes some noises, I'm not really worried about them as they are just(I think) mechanical. The picture quality still seems ok.
What I would do though is contact Canon. They are the only people who know whether their camera's are supposed to make noises, and whether the lens should be slightly loose or not.

The last ring of my lens doesn't move at all. I'm not going to yank on it but it seems very solid. Maybe you should go to a store that sells them and try some of the others, or the SD200 which has the same lens.
I hear a small noise after zooming in or out, but it sounds to me like a perfectly normal camera noise, probably the motor disengaging or something like that. I wouldn't have thought twice about it, and if you are hearing what I am hearing I wouldn't worry about it at all. Seems perfectly normal to me.

I have an A75, and it just started to make wierd lens noises today. I bought this in june 2004.
I took some pictures in macro mode for the first time yesterday, and now today, my lens is making weird noises while turning on, off, and zooming out from an object. I noticed that macro mode caused the camera to make more lens adjustments. So I don't know if my camera is busted because of that.
If you listen to the attached mp3 files, you will hear a relatively louder BZZZZZT sound. It has a louder vibration sound. sometimes it goes BZZZZT-BZZZZZT.
Trust me, I've never heard this sound before. And like other people, I've never dropped or bumped this camera.
(To download, RIGHT click, save target as....)
Here I am zooming in and out several times. After I zoom all the way in, then zoom out a tad, it goes BZZZZT. (http://members.lycos.co.uk/bigmoneysite/zoom.mp3) I am zooming in and out so that you can hear what it normally sounds like. Half the zoom noises in this sound bite are abnormal. I am sure you can tell which ones are abnormal and which ones aren't...
This is the sound when turning on the camera. (http://members.lycos.co.uk/bigmoneysite/on.mp3)
This is the sound while turning off the camera. (http://members.lycos.co.uk/bigmoneysite/off.mp3) Notice how it goes BZZZT BZZZT right after I push the power button.
My camera still works as of today, but I bet this camera will die soon. I've only taken 500 photos total since june 2004. It's a little too early to die don't you think....
