Sorry I should have posted the homepage link. HD View is a new viewer developed by Microsoft Research's Interactive Visual Media group to aid in the display and interaction with very large images. Why use HD View?

Gigapixel Panoramas!

How about using 800 or 2000 pictures to create panoramas....

Of course it doesn't work with Safari or Mac OS.

Pretty cool. Although it was the concept of GB images that had me open-mouthed at first. I wonder what the filesize for a 4.5GP image is?

Cool stuff.
I have seen pictures with such resolutions before, I try to see if I can find the site where they were posted. There were many great examples there too (and not in the propietary format).

It must take a lot of patience to take so many shots and stitch them afterwards, not to mention a lot of computing time to get it all stitched...

It's tempting to get a tripod, go outside, and go wild with the image taking, just to feed it all into a stitching program, wait a few days, and see the resulting image. Maybe make a 360 degree panorama, with 3 or 4 layers of images. Time consuming, but an interesting experiment.

As for this, interesting site. But I suck at finding things, so I failed most of the things underneath. :p
