monitor and printer profiles

how important are these? should i set both the monitor and printer color management profiles to the same ie nikonsrgb? will this produce more consistent results with respect to the screen and actual printed output?

yes. whatever you are using in your PP program, ideally you should set your printer/ monitor to the same. in saying that if you go to a photo lab to get prints this is pretty much out the window.
